In preparation for the Channy Awards (this Sunday if you hadn’t heard, but you have) I went to get a tuxedo with Del.

I’ve never been a fan of fashion. Styles keep changing and we’re always supposed to keep up. Suddenly your ironic T-shirt is too ironic, or needs to be bedazzled or some shit. Things like glasses and canes come into style, even if walking and seeing properly have never been a problem for you.

But with formalwear the shit doesn’t change much. I mean at least for guys, a suit today is close to what it was for our grandparents. (note: women’s formal attire seems to be trending towards nudity, which is simply awesome) Apparently there’s this whole “dress code” out there that I had heard of but never understood.

After researching the whole damn thing, I’ve got a new appreciation for tailors and wearing suits. Did you know there are fucking rules when and where “white tie” is to be worn, as opposed to “black tie”? AND it has little to do with racism?

I could probably go the rest of life in jeans and a t-shirt and be happy about it. But there is something cool about being able to dress up every once in awhile. I mean it seems stupid that modern fashion has people paying like $100 for an Ed Hardy shirt and $300 for designer jeans. That’s the price of a fucking suit!

So whaddya think? Time for suits and dresses to make a comeback?

I disagree with just about everything in this article. So I’m faced with two choices:

Refute it point by point, arguing that the past “three decades” have been anything but an Objectivist heyday, contrary to this GQ reporter’s misinterpretation.
Smile politely, say “I think you’re mistaken”, and go about life as the asshole I am.

I choose #2.
